Dannet Botkin – Owner & Founder of Designs Group Consulting

 

What exactly does your company do?

Designs Group Consulting (DGC), based in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, offers hands-on, full-service marketing solutions for businesses across America, taking a one-on-one approach to marketing. From strategic planning to graphic and web design, production, implementation, media buying, and distribution—print, digital and social—the company helps their business partners navigate the complex marketing world.

How did you start your company/business as a startup?

2015 I had clients before leaving a company I was working for… it has always been a dream of mine to own my own business vs. run businesses for others.

 

What struggle did you go through to reach your current status now?

The largest struggles are cash flow and freelance staffing. Since we work with smaller clients, they sometimes pay late or go above retainers so we have to keep an eagle eye on cash flow and client budgets. DGC only uses freelance staff, the best of the best in their creative field, so maintaining the proper balance of copywriters, graphic designers, website creators, etc. all working remote across the nation has been another struggle, but today we are in good shape.

We did have a struggle with one freelancer that was a friend I hired, lines got blurred and DGC was taken for granted but all is resolved now.

 

How did you manage to cope up with those struggles?

For the cash flow, we took out lines of credit. All customers pay us so we are in profitable, but the lines of credit allow us to pay staff and bills if / when customers are late. Paying staff on time every week if very important to me.

For freelance staffing, we continually source marketing experts to join the team. Training them on our processes and procedures until each can be an account executive for a client of DGC.

 

Who inspired you to move forward and influenced you in all your achievements now?

My family and friends have been my inspiration as well as some of my retainer clients that signed on before I even started the company.

 

What piece of advice will you share with those who would like to follow your footsteps?

Do not work with friends, lines get blurred. Have lines of credit set up when launching. Partner with clients so that they understand when they go over budgets and/or what is provided within. Treat your employees like they should be treated, they are your #1 asset.
