How did the business start?
I have been traveling for about 5 years now. The idea has been building up over the years during my travels. Moving all over the world, and having to start a new beginning in a new country can be quite daunting. I am well used to it by now, but there was a time where I did hope I had a community of girls that could completely relate to how I was feeling being in a new county, who relatively lived a similar lifestyle and wanted that long-lasting friendship and support no matter where they were in the world. Knowing that if you decided to take a trip to Mexico, that you would at least have a few girls there beforehand because you already have this supportive, empowering and family-like community you are involved with.
I did a solo Europe travel in October 2017 and started a blog. That’s the start of the first idea of everything forming. A few months later, I went to Australia for a year to work and earn some money. I had a goal, to earn X amount of money, quit and start my own business.
I got a visa for Spain, moved to Bilbao where my partner was. And it was there when the Global Girl Community began to form.
What are the challenges you met and how did you manage to cope up with these challenges and reach your current status?
Learning to lead. Going from a corporate job in sales, you learn how to manage. But learning to lead and building a team is a whole other ball game. Learning to go from IQ to EI, has been a learning experience I cannot quite explain in writing. I have only learnt these qualities whilst building the Global Girl Community and it has been a great journey that I am happy to share.
Who influenced you in this industry and how did he/she influence you?
I haven’t had any influence particularly. A while back when I first decided I wanted to start the Global Girl Community, I was telling a friend about my idea. She had just joined a community alike called MissAdventure. She recommended that I join, and joining that community gave me a lot of inspiration and ideas of how I wanted to build my community etc.
How did you manage to market your business and compete with other agencies in your niche?
I don’t compete. I support, I support others out there in the same niche and I empower and encourage us to collaborate. Obviously, some don’t want to collaborate, as some see it as a threat, but I don’t. That is my form of strategic marketing if you would call that marketing.
Work. As long as you are working on your startup, even if it’s just small work at the beginning at least it is something. Any form of work will bring you closer to your goal, even if it’s not clear to see. Double down on your strengths but don’t be scared to work on your weaknesses!
