Rachel Ngom, owner of She’s Making an Impact. We help purpose-driven entrepreneurs get more leads and sales with Pinterest, blogging, and online courses.
How did the business start?
I had an online fitness business for 7 years that did insanely well on Pinterest. I was ready for a pivot out of the fitness space and saw a massive need for entrepreneurs to learn how I generated 20,000 free leads from the platform. We started in August 2017 and have been able to serve nearly 4,000 students with our online courses.
What are the challenges you met and how did you manage to cope up with these challenges and reach your current status?
It was hard going from my first business, that I worked so hard to build and had a massive following and email lists to the new one starting from scratch. But I knew it was the right thing to do. Sometimes you have to give up the good to go for the great.
Who influenced you in this industry and how did he/she influence you?
My first business coach was Stacy Tuschl. I’m insanely grateful for her guidance as I entered totally new territory in the new business and I couldn’t have done it without her.
How did you manage to market your business and compete with other agencies in your niche?
I put my authentic self out there and started attracting my tribe. I didn’t try to be some professional ‘marketer’, I wanted to be relatable. I openly share my love of wine, friends, my mistakes and mom’s life with my followers. I regularly show up live without makeup and don’t edit our mistakes in our podcast.
What Best Practice/s can you share to our startup readers?
Be yourself. Take messy action. Perfection is the enemy of progress. Find a mentor. Add massive value.
